Her experience as an art instructor in the United States and England honed her ability to teach the art of observing, and to help people better express their vision. A recent Bik certification to design and lead children’s art projects has re-ignited a latent ‘art evangelism': ”Children’s artistic development follows an easily identifiable path. Art can be approach just as other primary school subjects are: children can be taught how to evaluate what they make so that they can develop visual literacy and can take pride in their own progress.”
Valerie's varied work and educational background make her adept at using language to influence and persuade. Based in the Netherlands for the last eight years, her love of the English language has found expression in short story and review writing, founding a book club, and undertaking professional projects-- including specialist science and cultural editing and translations.
In crossover graphic design commissions for scientific institutions, she applies her fine art image-making style to corporate communications.
Valerie continues to exhibit in Canada and the United States, as well as in the Netherlands. She also participated in exhibitions in Melbourne, Boston and London, and her work is held in private and corporate collections in several countries. In Canada, Ms. Zwart is represented the Gibsone Jessop Gallery.
